Tropical Graphics Price Increase
As you may or may not be aware, we have been involved in litigation with Sawgrass Systems, Inc. regarding the scope of their patent for sublimation printing for the past 18 months. Tropical Graphics believed that the patent in question did not cover our formula of inks and we exercised our legal right to challenge this patent through the Federal Court System, a process which cost Tropical Graphics in excess off $500,000 in legal fees. This litigation culminated several weeks ago with the Federal Court ruling that the patent in question did in fact cover the formula of inks that we market as ArTainium UV+.
Tropical Graphics has studied this ruling in great detail and now fully accepts the court's decision, as well as recognizing the intellectual property of Sawgrass Systems. It is with this ruling in mind that Tropical Graphics has decided to accept the offer of a license from Sawgrass Systems to continue to market and distribute our ArTainium UV+ sublimation inks. Unfortunately, the introduction of this license will mean that we will have to implement price increases across our range of desktop products. However, these increases will only bring the cost of an 8x10 print from a 1280/1290 & 4000 bulk systems to around 0.50 - 0.60c per print. This is still significantly less than the $2.00 per print when we introduced our ArTainium brand ink three years ago and still represents great value for the money. The introduction of these price increases will take place on Tuesday 21st September 2004 and a list of the upcoming price changes can be viewed here
We trust that ArTainium UV+ users will understand the necessity for the price increases. The licensing agreement with Sawgrass Systems allows Tropical and our distribution partners to continue to offer ArTainium UV+ inks to the market.
We would like to thank everyone for their support over the years and we look forward to continuing to grow together.
